Vietnamese American Media Awards Gala Honors the Media for Their Contributions to the Vietnamese Community in the United States

The Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce of Houston (VACCH) is hosting the Vietnamese American Media Awards Gala at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Kim Son Restaurant on 10603 Bellaire Blvd.

For more than 38 years that the Vietnamese community has been in the United States, the media helped shape our community through news coverage, reports, programs, and events. This Gala will award the work of those who contributed to building the Asian community, and particularly, the Vietnamese community in the United States. As such, critical contribution achievements by newspapers, radio, and television networks will be recognized.

“The general media and Asian media helped build our community in the United States in many ways, and this recognition is long overdue,” said Dr. Victoria Ai Linh Bryant, VACCH president. “They did not forget us; this Gala is an opportunity not only to say that we did not forget them, but also to express that we are deeply grateful for their contributions.”

Houston has the second largest Vietnamese population in the United States. Thanks to the support of the media, the Vietnamese community is making enormous economic and cultural contributions to the country.

“We want to thank those who helped make so many dreams come true,” says Dr. Bryant. “The media’s impact on the Vietnamese community in the United States is tremendous, and we hope to continue working closely with each other to deliver pertinent news and information to our city.”

The event will feature an awards ceremony for those in the media in various categories. The mainstream and Asian media will be recognized for their contributions to the Vietnamese community. There will also be media reporters and experts to discuss media partnership opportunities, past successes, and how we can work together to provide better news coverage on minority communities.
