HOUSTON, TX – For more than the 36 years the Vietnamese community has been in Houston, the
general media helped shaped our community through news coverage, programs and events.
On June 14, for the first time, the Vietnamese American Chamber of Commerce will host a Media Gala
to honor the work of those who had a hand in building the Asian community, particularly, the
Vietnamese community. Critical community service achievements by Houston’s newspapers, radio and
television outlets will be recognized.
“The general media and Asian media helped build our community in many ways, and this recognition is
long overdue,” said Dr. Victoria Ai Linh, the president of VACCH. “They did not forget us, and this gala is
an opportunity to say we did not forget them either.
“Houston’s Vietnamese community is the nation’s third largest. Because of the support of Houstonians
and Houston media, our community is now making enormous economic and cultural contributions to
the region. We want to thank those who have helped make so many dreams come true.
“The media’s impact on our community is tremendous, and we hope to continue working closely with
each other to deliver pertinent news and information to our city.”
