VICE PRESIDENT BOAKAI MEETS WITH HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL TRADE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL FROM TEXAS

 

A fifteen man delegation from Houston International Trade Development Council Tuesday met with Vice President Joseph Boakai on Capitol Hill in Monrovia, Liberia, to continue the dialogue for partnership between Liberian entrepreneurs and the business community in Texas.

Last  April Vice President Boakai at the head of a high power Official delegation travelled to the United States to chair Investment forums in Atlanta, Georgia and Phoenix Arizona. He later visited Houston Texas where he met with the City Mayor of Houston and held fruitful discussion with the business community there.

Welcoming the delegation to Liberia, Vice President Boakai recalled the tradional ties between the United States and Liberia and briefed the delegation on the state of developments in the country.

Vice President Boakai informed the Trade Council that the Liberian Government under the Presidency of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf enjoys the goodwill of the international community and that the government along with partners and the entire citizenry are currently  in the exercise of rebuilding the nation from  the ruins of the war that devastated basic infrastructure and the economy.

The delegation presented a gift from the Mayor of Houston to Vice President Joseph Boakai.

The  purpose of the mission is to provide American Businesses and firms access to Liberian Government officials,businesses and entrepreneurs , structured in a way that will enable  businesses to survey the Liberian market potentials and expand private direct investments.

The  Houston International Trade Development Council was escorted to the Vice President’s Office by Madam Gurley T. Gibson, Trade Representative of the Embassy of Liberia Trade and Investment Office in Pennslyvania, the USA.

Members of the delegation include  Houston City Councilman Larry Green, Val Thompsom, Ben Philips, Ama Love, Rev Martin James,Solomie Mesghine, Haddis Telwode, Rev. Dr. Johnnie Drake, Leah Drake Stith, Glenn Roberts, Babara A. Simmons, Judge  Bill C. Littlejohn, Harambee W.Taymullah and Rev.Tialea.

The Liberia Trade and Investment Office in Philadephia operates under the mandate  to make sure that every corporation and business leader sees liberia for what it truly is as well as helping to move Liberia toward rapid and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, the delegation has met with officials from the Ministries of Commerce, Finance, the Port Authority and Chevron. There are more meetings scheduled for the delegation as well as tours.
