Tet FESTival Houston 2014 Celebrates Vietnamese Lunar New Year

The Tet FESTival Houston 2014 will rejoice in the diversity of Houston’s culture while celebrating the culture’s most celebrated and significant holiday, Tet Nguyen Dan (or the Lunar New Year) and the Year of the Horse.  The festival will be held at Discovery Green on Saturday, January 25 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and admission is free.

Tet FESTival Houston 2014 is a celebration of the small businesses made up in the Houston’s thriving Vietnamese community. Houston and its surrounding counties are home to the largest per capita Vietnamese community in the United States and this festival will showcase this culture through partnerships with like-minded businesses around Houston like Wells Fargo, BYN-TV, Kim Son, Rocko Steady, L’auberge, the Houston Grand Opera, and more.

The Houston Grand Opera chamber opera, Bound, is a much-anticipated performance that celebrates Houston as a meeting place for Eastern and Western Cultures created by composer Huang Ruo and librettist Bao-Long Chu. This piece will be performed for the first time at the Tet FESTival Houston 2014 as a preview of the Houston Grand Opera’s East + West series.

The Tet FESTival Houston 2014 will celebrate Vietnamese culture, traditions and businesses through performances and activities like dragon dancing, a celebrity Pho-eating contest presented by Bud Light and emceed by Barry Warner, multiple dining options along “L’auberge Lane,” and a fashion show featuring the latest designs by Eastern and Western designers. A full schedule of events throughout the festival can be found here.

“Tet Fest has a 20 year history and I am proud that it represents the inspirational journey and vitality of Houston’s Vietnamese community,” said Hubert Vo, Texas State Representative and Tet Fest Co-Chair.  “The theme of this year’s festival is Partnerships and Cultural Appreciation, which offers a unique way to match Vietnamese-owned businesses and cultural organizations.”

The Platinum Sponsor of this year’s festival is Wells Fargo.  Other supporters include L’auberge, Silver Eagle Distributors, Houston Grand Opera, Direct, Port of Houston Authority, Coterie Spark, Integrate Public Relations, Direct Furniture, Hoa Da Herbs, TT Consultants, and BYN Houston 57.3.

“At Wells Fargo, community reinvestment is an integral part of our business culture. Wells Fargo has long understood that we can be no stronger, nor more successful, than the neighborhoods and communities where we do business,” said Glenn Godkin, Wells Fargo regional president for Greater Houston. “Supporting our communities and events like Tet FESTival allows us to better connect with our customers and helps us to achieve our goal to be one of America’s best companies.”
