Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day is a national initiative that stresses the importance of getting regular checkups from healthcare professionals to aid in the elimination of healthcare disparities. Minorities suffer disproportionately from cancer, stroke, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and maternal and infant mortality.
On Wednesday, September 19, 2012, Amerigroup highlighted the importance of working together to protect loved ones from these and other disparities in healthcare. This campaign is an annual initiative to remind all Houstonians to take charge of their health by visiting a health professional (doctor, nurse, dentist, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or another health provider).
The focus of the campaign was to encourage individuals to make an appointment to see a physician, attend a health event in the community, or help a friend, neighbor or family member do the same on or around Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
