SHOOT 2 SCORE HOOPS OFFERS YOUTH A HEALTHY SUMMER VACATION OPTION

HOUSTON, TX –Every parent’s dream summer vacation for their children is to involve them in activities that keep them healthy and active, stimulates their mind and prepares them for a successful future. This summer, Shoot 2 Score Hoops (S2S), will help parents and children reach this ideal vacation starting June 6th through August 4th with its fourth annual Summer Basketball Camp series at The D Spot; 9745 Bissonnet; Houston, TX 77036 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily.

Shoot 2 Score Hoops (S2S), a non-profit organization created to give back to the Houston-area youth and surrounding community, is focusing on developing the next generation of healthier and successful children through basketball training, in addition to helping them become premiere basketball players.
“Shoot 2 Score Hoops is more than just a basketball program, it’s an opportunity for youth to build discipline, character, self-confidence and a healthier living style,” Shoot 2 Score Hoops founder Marcus Sloan, said.

With much of the nation’s focus on preventing childhood obesity, Shoot 2 Score’s camp schedule highlights the importance of eating healthy and exercising daily. The emphasis on maintaining physical activity, coupled with developing team building skills, makes Shoot 2 Score Hoops’ Basketball Camps in a class of its own.

The four-day camp for boys and girls ages 5-17, offers extensive training on shooting, dribbling, rebounding and playing sound defense in addition to the opportunity to be seen by AAU and high school coaches. From 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day, the kids will have the opportunity to work with camp mentors, comprised of high school coaches, college and professional basketball players. All camp participants will receive a camp T-shirt, a photo, basketball certificate and
other prizes.

This year, S2S is teaming with XrossOver training vest to enhance the camp experience for the attendees. The primary goal of XrossOver is to provide athletes, both male and female, of all ages with effective, durable, skill-enhancing equipment. Specifically, the XrossOver Vest will improve any basketball player’s shooting, passing, and dribbling skills that assist with the development of their skills and form.

In addition to focusing on perfecting the children’s basketball skills, camp counselors will also conduct educational courses throughout the camp, focusing on maintaining GPAs, SAT preparation and how to prepare for NCAA sports.

“The goal of the camp is to help prepare the kids in every way possible,” Sloan said. “At our camps, the kids actually learn something, helping them develop in areas other than basketball.”

This year’s camp will offer a live stream daily, providing parents and athletes up to the minute coverage to the camp’s activities. Guest speakers including professional basketball players, coaches and entrepreneurs will visit each camp session for an informational session with campers.
S2S’s mission statement emphasizes its desire to provide “positive development of underprivileged boys and girls in Houston, Texas through basketball and character building programs.”

Sloan said his inspiration to create the organization came from the basketball programs he attended as a child. As a former Division-I basketball player at TCU and current professional player in Europe, the Eisenhower High School alumni said those basketball camps helped shape him to become a better athlete and motivated him to excel both on and off the court.

“Growing up, I realized that many of my peers didn’t have the opportunities to get exposure to college life, or to see the world outside of our neighborhood,” Sloan said. “I want to show young people what life has shown me by way of competitive athletics – that there is more to life than what we are immediately exposed to.”
