The Houston West Chamber of Commerce (HWCOC) is honored to announce Captain Richard Halferty, USN (Ret), Chairman of the Lonestar Chapter of the Korean War Veterans, and His Excellency, Ambassador Suk-bum Park, Consul General of the Republic of Korea, as keynote speakers for the organization’s annual Salute to Veterans Luncheon, held Friday, November 7, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Omni Houston Hotel – Westside, located at 13210 Katy Freeway in Houston.

Often referred to as the “Forgotten War,” the Salute to Veterans Luncheon aims to recognize the sacrifices made by brave American soldiers who fought for the freedom of South Korea from communist rule in the North. Some 34,000 American troops were casualties of the Korean War.

The event is proudly sponsored by Cole Chemical, Frost Bank, and Haynes and Boone, LLP and will begin with a flyover, presented by Veteran Energy and conducted by the Houston Wing Commemorative Air Force, accompanied by a touching rendition of Taps by bagpiper James Gunn. Two incredible veterans will receive the “Heart of Service” Award for their contributions to the war effort and one award will be presented in Memory of Dr. Michael DeBakey. In addition, the luncheon will feature displays of military vehicles and memorabilia, as well as music by the Lone Star Dixieland Band with vocals by Bill & Kim Nash, formerly of Nash3. FOX 26 News Anchor Don Teague will emcee the event.
