President Barack Obama Endorses Mayor Annise Parker

Says Mayor Parker is “helping to create middle-class jobs, make Houston a safer city

and help prepare our kids for the future.”

President Barack Obama today officially endorsed Annise Parker for a third term as Mayor of Houston, praising Parker’s role in rebuilding Houston’s economy and creating a safer city.

“Under Mayor Annise Parker’s leadership, Houstonians have come together to lift their city out of the recession and today, Houston is at the forefront of moving America’s economy forward,” said President Obama.

“Mayor Parker understands that her most important job is to make Houston an even better place to live, work and raise a family. That’s why she has advanced innovative programs that are helping to create middle-class jobs, sustain small businesses, build stronger, safer neighborhoods and help prepare our kids for the future,” continued the President. “I’m proud to support Mayor Annise Parker.”

“I am honored to have the support of President Obama as we work together to create a stronger economy, a safer city and a brighter future for Houston’s children,” said Mayor Annise Parker. “This administration has been a real partner in our success: modernizing public safety, funding critical after-school programs, continuing Houston’s lead in job creation and so much more.

“Just last August, I met with the President and Attorney General Eric Holder at the White House to discuss strategies to reduce youth violence. It’s this kind of cooperation that is making Houston a safer city with a brighter future for our kids.”

When other cities fell behind during the recession, Mayor Annise Parker changed our city government to help make Houston a better place to live. Today, we’re cleaning up parks, helping kids stay in school, upgrading hundreds of miles of streets and building new police and fire stations.

Mayor Parker’s Hire Houston First program is creating good, local jobs and helping small businesses grow. She put more police officers on the street and bulldozed more than 2,500 dangerous, abandoned buildings, many of which had become havens for crime and drugs.

Mayor Parker is funding after-school programs, building new libraries and creating summer jobs for youth. She’s cut millions in waste and balanced every budget without raising taxes and without cutting a single police or firefighter job.

Mayor Parker has been endorsed by the city’s largest teacher and law enforcement organizations and a broad coalition of labor unions, civil rights groups, business associations, Democratic and Republican groups and more than 3,000 individuals listed on www.AnniseParker.com.
