The 14th Annual Back to School Distribution & Health Fair helped low income families prepare for the 2012-2013 school year by providing essential school supplies to over two thousand Houston area children. Along with school supplies, children will be receiving school uniforms, meals and healthcare information for parents.
Despite the “economic miracle” that has sustained Texas throughout the crisis, more than one in four of its residents (27.6 percent) are uninsured — the highest percentage in the nation by far. In Texas, that’s approximately 1.4 million of them live in Texas.
Because of the Amerigroup’s commitment families to better quality care for a lower cost, they have partnered with La Rosa Family Services and will provide membership enrollment at the 14th Annual Back to School Distributions & Health Fair, Saturday August 11, 2013. “This sponsorship will help to ensure that thousands of Houston ISD students get a great start for the new school year,” said Martha Kennerson with Amerigroup.
La Rosa Family Services is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded to assist families, primarily women and children, exposed to domestic violence and abuse. In 2008 the annual “Back to School” program that originally provided 500 to 1000 backpacks to children in need was successfully expanded to provide 2000 backpacks, and added giving other essential needs like socks, uniforms, and underwear.
