Mayor Parker Touts Houston City Gardens Mentioned in First Lady Obama’s New Book

What:
Mayor Parker has initiated many initiatives promoting local food, urban gardens and nutrition. The project that kicked off these initiatives was the vegetable container gardens built in June 2010 at the Bob Lanier Public Works Building, highlighting local produce and educating Houstonians about the ease of maintaining a vegetable garden in any type of environment. Named the City Gardens, these vegetable container gardens are now highlighted in First Lady Michelle Obama’s new book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.
