“AmeriCorps Works” is the theme of Houston AmeriCorps Awareness Week 2012, scheduled for May 12 to 19. The week will feature a variety of public service events designed to introduce residents to volunteer opportunities.
The events are organized by numerous nonprofit groups and other entities, including: College Forward Houston, the City of Houston Mayor’s Volunteer Initiatives Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters – Greater Houston, Life Support Development Ministry, Houston Food Bank, The Alliance for Multicultural Community Services and Partnership for Advancement & Immersion of Refugees. Houston AmeriCorps Awareness Week was initiated by College Forward Houston to unite numerous AmeriCorps organizations and celebrate community service. AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that gives thousands of Americans the opportunity to participate in community service projects in locations across the country.
