WHEN: Monday, January 21 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

WHAT: The 2013 Houston Astros CAREavan Presented by Blue Bell Ice Cream will kick off with MLK Day activities in Houston at 9 a.m., celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Players will appear in the 19th Annual MLK Day Grande Parade in Midtown Houston. The Astros Urban Youth Academy (UYA) will also host a baseball and softball clinic Presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors at 3 p.m. for kids participating in the Astros Community Leaders, RBI and UYA programs.

The 2013 week-long Houston Astros CAREavan Presented by Blue Bell Ice Cream includes over 30 stops. The 14-city tour consists of five simultaneous tours with stops in the Houston area (Jan. 21 – 25), Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen, La Joya and McAllen (Jan. 22 – 23), and Austin and San Antonio (Jan. 24 – 25). The CAREavan will also travel to the Astros’ minor league ballparks in Corpus Christi (Jan. 24) and Oklahoma City (Jan. 25). The CAREavan will conclude with the annual free FanFest event at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, January 26, from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
