State Representatives; Leaders Acknowledge Smith As Their Candidate To Represent District 137
June 14th, 2012 – (HOUSTON, TX) –Jamaal Smith continues to earn key endorsements in his campaign for State Representative, House District 137. Today, Smith has garnered the support of several local elected officials including State Representatives Sylvester Turner, District 139; Borris Miles, District 146; Senfronia Thompson, District 141; Armando Walle District 140; and Ron Reynolds, District 27.
The strong unity of support comes as a testament to Smith’s extensive work in both the Texas State Legislature and the Harris County Democratic Party.
“Jamaal’s record and extensive experience speaks for itself,” said State Representative Sylvester Turner. “Both his policy knowledge and commitment to his community are unmatched by anyone else in the race. Jamaal is the best candidate to represent District 137 and I look forward to working with him in Austin during the next Legislative session.”
The latest endorsements add to the growing coalition of endorsements that include groups like the Communications Workers of America Local 6222, the Harris County Tejano Democrats, the Houston GLBT Political Caucus, and the Houston Black American Democrats.
“[Smith] is the best man for the job,” added State Representative Armando Walle. “I’ve known Jamaal since we were both undergraduates at The University of Houston. I’ve also known him through his work in Austin and at the Harris County Democratic Party, and I’ve witnessed first-hand what he is capable of accomplishing. The people of District 137 deserve a Representative that is willing to fight for them, and I know that Jamaal is that type of candidate.”

Jamaal Smith most recently served as policy advisor and community liaison for State Senator Rodney Ellis. Prior to that, Jamaal was the Executive Director of the Harris County Democratic Party and worked as Legislative Director for the late Representative Joe E. Moreno. Jamaal Smith is a resident of Westchase in Southwest Houston and a graduate of the University of Houston. Jamaal is currently pursuing a law degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
