More than 80 subject experts and 1,200 women from all walks of life will be gathered on Friday and Saturday, August 6-7, 2010, at the One Woman National Business Conference® (One Woman®).
Hosted by the Texas Business Alliance, One Woman® will again be held at the Omni Houston Hotel, Four Riverway, Houston, Texas 77056. This year’s theme is “Still Standing,” celebrating the resilience of entrepreneurs who withstood 2009′s challenging economic climate.
Incorporating the vital business of art, the conference now includes a free art forum and special live interactive painting session. Reginald Adams (pictured right), public artist and founder of the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (mocah.org), will develop the live painting “Co-creation in the Vortex” from 8 a.m.- noon on Saturday, August 7 onsite. Best known for his brilliantly colored tile mosaic murals and sculptures, Reginald will utilize a bold mixed media technique to create a 3′ x 4′ original work of art that will inspire, entertain and engage participants in the creative process. The title of the artwork exemplifies his philosophy of integrating the public in the development of his work.
The final artwork will then be auctioned live at 1 p.m. during the Soaring Heights Awards Brunch, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Texas Business Alliance’s Youth Entrepreneurship Academy® (YEA), which equips high school and college students with the tools and resources to pursue an entrepreneurial career alternative.
The art forum “The Business of Art; pART Creative Strategy, pART Basic Savvy” will take place from 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. is open to the public and will be moderated by KPRC Local 2 News Anchor Jerome Gray (pictured right).
Five panelists, all experts in a different facet of the art community, will provide commentary on themes such as Houston’s unique art world, the strengths and challenges of working in the arts, the business of gallery ownership and art collection, and tips directly from successful artists. Panel Members include:
Reginald Adams Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH)
Deborah M. Colton Colton & Farb Gallery
Richard Graber Houston Arts Alliance
Ann Johnson Artist/Educator
Lester Marks International Art Advisory Services
“I’m thrilled to be a part of this conference, which recognizes art as a thriving part of our economy. I encourage anyone to come observe and participate in the live painting process, and attend the free forum. Plus, one lucky auction winner will be helping to empower future business leaders, which is a real bonus,” said Reginald Adams.
Texas Business Alliance Founder and CEO Jeffrey Boney said, “I expect this new arts portion of our program to draw unique interest and serve as a fine finale to One Woman®. I’m thankful to the moderator, panelists and artists for donating their time to offer valuable insight and perspectives.”
An art exhibition will also accompany the art forum, including works from a variety of local artists, photographers and jewelry designers. Those working in the arts, interested in arts volunteerism, art lovers, or anyone who enjoys creativity will appreciate the arts portion of the One Woman®, presented by Four22 Creative Marketing and Public Relations (www.four22creative.com).
