HOUSTON (Oct. 23, 2012) — Gulf Coast Community Services Association (GCCSA) will celebrate its new facility on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. From this headquarters, the nonprofit organization will continue to combat hunger, illness, illiteracy and other challenges facing Southeast Texas families.
GCCSA’s war on poverty goes back to 1964 when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act. GCCSA stands by this act as it works to give families the tools they need for economic stability. These tools include numerous services such as Head Start/Early Head Start, housing/utility assistance, clothing/furniture vouchers, and English language education.
“Now that our corporate office resides in the heart of Harris County, GCCSA is creating a bold and new institutional era in which a community-implemented system of programs and services are designed to equip the residents of Harris County with the tools to earn a living wage, advance their education and gain economic security,” says GCCSA CEO Dr. Jonita Wallace Reynolds.
The organization services individuals ranging from infants to senior citizens. Last year alone, GCCSA assisted people in nearly 60,000 households in their quest to empower themselves through educational and economic programs. “We are proud of what we do and to whom we do it for, and want nothing more than to showcase and celebrate our success stories,” adds Reynolds.
U.S Representative Al Green will serve as the Keynote Speaker for the Autumn Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the facility, which is located seconds from the 610 Loop near Reliant Center. Congressman Green will also be awarded for his continued support of GCCSA.
Other honorable guests to be recognized at the event include Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker; Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee; GCCSA Board Chair Kevin Owens; and GCCSA employee Frankie Austin. The event will take place on the site of the new location, 9320 Kirby Drive, Houston Texas, 77054. Comcast Community Investment Manager Yolanda Green will serve as emcee.
