Houston Partners with Shanghai, China, in Cross-Promotion Efforts

MOU Signed to Exchange Promotional Videos to be Publicly Aired in Each City

Houston Mayor Annise Parker today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mr. Fen Guoqin, Chairman of the Shanghai’s People Political Consultative Committee and President & Secretary general of Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association. The MOU is an agreement to exchange and display two promotional videos about Houston and Shanghai.

“This is a great aspect of local government – creating international relationships to promote opportunities for our residents, promoting mutual understanding and education about our culture and city to others abroad,” said Mayor Parker. “For Houstonians who have never experienced the magic of Shanghai, they will now have a glimpse through these videos that will be placed in venues throughout the city. And for Shanghainese who have never thought of Houston beyond one particularly famous – and very tall – basketball player, they will now see how much Houston has to offer.”

The agreement between Shanghai and Houston as partner cities states that after the exchange of each city’s promotional films, they will be broadcast publicly via various media platforms in each city for six months.

Houston’s promotional video will be seen on two high-traffic websites in Shanghai, www.shio.gov.cn and www.eastday.com, International Channel Shanghai and two outdoor big screens in the main business districts of Shanghai.

In Houston, the Shanghai video will be seen at www.houstontx.gov/intltrade, www.globalhouston.org, the City of Houston Municipal Public Access Channel as well as the George R. Brown Convention Center and the City of Houston’s Visitors’ Center public display screens.
