Dynamo complete two-city road trip before hosting Portland Timbers on Sunday
The Houston Dynamo visit the New York Red Bulls tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT for a 2013 playoff rematch at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. Tonight’s game caps a two-city road trip before the Dynamo return to BBVA Compass Stadium on Sunday to host the Portland Timbers.
Tonight’s game will be broadcast live on CSN Houston Plus (6 p.m. CT pregame show) and can be heard on Yahoo Sports Radio 1560 AM and 850 AM (Spanish).
Tonight is Houston’s third consecutive road game and second in five days after a 0-0 draw at Philadelphia on Saturday.
The Dynamo are 2-3-1 (7 points) after gaining a road point against the Union on Saturday despite playing the final eight minutes plus stoppage time with ten players after Kofi Sarkodie was issued a red card.
The Red Bulls (1-2-4; 7 points) defeated the Union in their last game, a 2-1 home win on April 16, before having a bye last weekend in MLS play.
Houston and New York staged an epic Eastern Conference semifinal series last November, with the Dynamo prevailing 4-3 on aggregate. The Dynamo erased deficits in both legs of the series, including a 2-0 halftime disadvantage in the first leg at home.
Omar Cummings scored the equalizing goal in stoppage time of the first leg and produced the winning goal in the 14th minute of extra time in the second leg to deliver the Dynamo their first ever win in New York.
The Red Bulls won the 2013 MLS Supporters’ Shield with the league’s best regular season record. New York features striker Thierry Henry, France’s all-time leading scorer who registered 10 goals and nine assists last season. The Red Bulls also feature Australia international Tim Cahill, who was named to the MLS Best XI list after leading New York with 11 goals and added 5 assists last season.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Dynamo return to Houston to face the Portland Timbers on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium. Tickets are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com or by calling 713-276-GOAL.
