Klingenberg part of 19-player roster for Aug. 20 friendly
Houston Dash defender Meghan Klingenberg has been called in to the U.S. Women’s National Team by head coach Jill Ellis for its upcoming international friendly against Switzerland, it was announced today. Klingenberg is one of 19 players named for the match.
The United States will face off against Switzerland on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The sold-out match kicks off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ussoccer.com.
Klingenberg, 25, has made 13 appearances for the senior national team, including six starts in 2014. The Pittsburgh native joined the Dash midway through their inaugural season after competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Tyresö FF of Sweden, and has started six matches totaling 517 minutes in NWSL play. Klingenberg is one of five players on the roster who played collegiately at the University of North Carolina, 20 miles down the road from Cary.
Klingenberg will join the USWNT after the Dash’s NWSL season finale against the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 17. The match will be broadcast live on HoustonDashSoccer.com.
