HCC Southeast unveils its newest addition to the Eastside Campus

Houston Community College Southeast dedicated their new parking garage facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The three-story suspended parking garage guarantees that all students, faculty and sta

Some of the garage’s 150,000 square feet will be built out by February of 2014 to house state-of-the-art educational facilities geared toward workforce programs such as HVAC and corrosion technology. Acting Chancellor Renee Byas; Dr. Irene Porcarello, President HCC Southeast; HCC Trustee Chairman Bruce Austin, District II; Trustee Herlinda Garcia, District III; and Trustee Eva Loredo, District VIII, offered remarks about the facility and its importance to the community.

Dr. Porcarello talked about the great partnership between HCC and the Eastside community. She stated that, “this addition to the campus is a testament to the growth of the surrounding neighborhoods and HCC’s commitment to serve the community with convenient and safe access to quality education.”

“This new parking garage,” Trustee Garcia said, “connects HCC with more of the community and aids in training the leaders of tomorrow. These students will bring economic vitality to our community.”

Trustee Loredo added, “The benefits of HCC’s presence in the community can be seen in the positive impact on the economy from the creation of jobs, increases in students’ lifetime incomes, a better educated, better trained workforce pool, a reduction in the demand for social services and the generation of government revenue.”

Among the attendees were Jorge Maldonado, Community Liaison out of Congressman Gene Green’s office; Harris County Constable Precinct 2 Christopher Diaz; Frances Castañeda Dyess, President of Houston East End Chamber of Commerce; Felix Fraga, Vice President of External Relations with Neighborhoods Centers, Inc.; Bolivar Fraga, Community Developer with Neighborhood Centers, Inc.; Rosie Canales, Director of Programs for Community Family Centers; Linda Clary, Maritime Academy Coordinator with the Port of Houston Authority; and Mark Christensen, Regional Manager for Bartlett Cocke General Contractors.
