Houston, TX - Houston Independent School Board President Paula Harris will serve another four years representing HISD District IV after garnering 66% of the vote tonight.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent the students of District IV,” says Harris, “We have accomplished so much in four years but there is still work to do.”
Under Harris’ leadership there has been an increase in student on-time graduation rates, a decrease in student dropout rates and more parent participation throughout the District. Harris is the first Trustee to host monthly parent meetings and ensure District IV parents have representation on district-wide committees.
“Paula is a fierce advocate for the students, parents and teachers of District IV” says supporter, District IV parent and State Representative Borris L. Miles, District 146. “She will continue to fight for increased student performance, greater teacher accountability and funding for much-needed programs. She is a leader that will make the hard decisions with our student’s future in mind.”
Harris’ vision for the future is clear, “I will focus on promoting literacy, implementing a dual language programs and developing a District IV strategic plan to continue the path to educational excellence.”
About Paula Harris: Harris has been a champion for parents, students and schools of District IV since she was elected to the Houston Independent School District Board of Education in 2007. Under her leadership, she has increased on-time student graduation rates, decreased student dropout rates and implemented programs to enhance student development. Paula currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees.
