Alex Cuba, the sensational Latin Grammy winner whose music has a strong and growing international following, will perform in HCC Central’s Heinen Theatre Tuesday, September 17 at 11 a.m., as part of the college’s observance of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The Alex Cuba concert is free and open to the public. HCC Central’s Heinen Theatre is at 3517 Austin Street at Holman in Houston’s Midtown area.
The Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter, who sings in Spanish and English, combines rock, soul, pop and Latin-funk in his music. He won the Latin Grammy for “Best New Artist” in 2010, and was nominated for “Best Latin Pop Album” at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011.
Cuba, who was born Alexis Puentes, spent his childhood in Artemisa, Cuba. He is the son of guitar player and music teacher Valentin Puentes. Alex started playing guitar himself at age six, and has a twin brother, Adonis, who is a fellow musician and artist. As an adult, Alex shifted into jazz-fusion styles.
Photos and autographs with Cuba will be available in HCC Central’s Learning Hub Science Bldg., (LHSB), Room 100 after Cuba’s performance from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
