HOUSTON (April, 2012)- Families from across Texas and Louisiana are making the 9th annual Texas Black Expo Juneteenth Summer Celebration, the largest urban festival in Texas, their preferred “Summer Stay-cation” destination event. With the new strategic partnerships Texas Black Expo has formed with the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, attendees can anticipate a number of crowd-pleasing changes, one of which will be the Texas Black Expo Old School Hip-Hop and R&B Outdoor Concert featuring recently-signed legendary artist, George Clinton and Parliament.
George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic (P-Funk) are pioneers of funk music whose sound is the DNA of modern Hip-Hop and Soul. From “I Wanna Testify”, “One Nation Under A Groove”, and “Mothership Connection” to “Flashlight”, “Atomic Dog”, and “Paint the White House Black”, P-Funk has been on the front lines of progressive creativity and has forged a sound and a style that has turned heads and torn up stages for over five decades. As internationally-recognized Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legends, George Clinton and P-Funk’s timeless hits continue to draw massive crowds around the world who are dedicated fans of the P-Funk sound.
Additionally, old school R&B legends ConFunkShun and Hip-Hop pioneers Whodini will take the stage at the Old School Hip-Hop and R&B Concert. ConFunkShun, with hits such as “Ffun”, “Shake and Dance with Me”, “Chase Me”, “Got to Be Enough”, and “Too Tight”, will deliver a superb, high-energy show with electrifying choreography, glistening six-part vocal harmonies, and a dash of humor while engaging the audience with their enduring romantic ballads and party hits. Whodini, a Hip-Hop group that was a featured contemporary of many of the most high-profile groups of the 1980′s, enjoyed a string of hits for several years, including “Funky Beat”, “One Love”, “Friends”, “Five Minutes of Funk” and “Be Yourself”. With their characteristic baselines and widely popular lyrics, the group’s songs are frequently sampled in the work of many contemporary artists today.
This event will take place at Discovery Green Park on Friday, June 15th at 7 PM and will kick off the ninth annual Texas Black Expo Juneteenth Summer Celebration, a three-day festival of music, entertainment, shopping and cultural celebration. Best of all, when guests purchase their concert tickets by May 30th, they will receive a free ticket to attend the Juneteenth Summer Celebration tradeshow held at the George R.
