Galveston Chamber Launches Makeover Sweepstakes for the Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit Conference

Three lucky women will win head to toe transformations at the 7th annual Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit conference Friday, April 11 at the Moody Gardens Convention

Presented by the Galveston Chamber of Commerce the 7th annual Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit conference is an uplifting, energetic event designed to inspire and educate today’s women. This year three lucky ladies will be selected in a Makeover Sweepstakes to win a head to toe transformation by style expert Roz Pactor and her team of professionals. Winners will also enjoy a complimentary ticket to the conference, transportation to and from the conference by Yellow Cab and other fabulous prizes!

Roz Pactor is a fashion and marketing consultant. She’ll be presenting a personal improvement segment at the conference. A veteran of Paris, New York and Houston Fashion Week, Roz has been a featured stylist in national magazines and television.

Sweepstakes winners will have their hair transformed by Lulu Benavides, entrepreneur and owner of Lulu’s the Salon, Inc. in Galveston. LuLu’s hair creations have appeared editorially in over sixty issues of leading international fashion journals and she was recently featured in the Latin magazines, Salon Plus and Vibra.

Glamming up the sweepstakes winners with makeup will be Courtney Goodbar, independent hair colorist and makeup artist based at Windmiller’s Salon in Galveston, and Dina Gutierrez, makeup artist at Atmosphere the Salon & Beyond.

Clothes for the makeover will be provided by the always fashionable, Galveston based boutiques Tina’s on the Strand, Treasure Trove and the Front Parlor. Each winner will receive a gift card to one of these boutiques to keep up their new look.

Sweepstakes winners will be chosen randomly from entries on the Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit Facebook page as well as the conference website, www.GalvestonChamber.com/womensconference. Women interested in entering the sweepstakes can enter daily through March 21, 2014 using two methods:

  • Facebook users can enter the contest by “liking” the Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit page and following these instructions:
    • On a desktop computer go to www.facebook.com/GalvestonCelebratingWomen, and click on “Makeover Sweepstakes.”

Facebook users can utilize both methods of entry to increase their chances of winning. Furthermore, inviting other Facebook users to enter the contest via the prompt provided upon submitting an entry will also increase the chance of being selected.

Winners will be notified by phone and/or email on Saturday, March 22 and must respond within 12 hours or their prize will be forfeited and another winner selected. To be eligible to win, contest entrants must be able to travel to Galveston on Saturday, March 29 at their own expense for an assessment and fitting. Entrants must also be able to attend the Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit all-day conference on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Galveston to win.

The 2014 Celebrating Women: Mind, Body, Spirit conference will feature keynote speaker Aisha Tyler. Aisha is a native of San Francisco and holds a degree in government and environmental policy. Kendra Scott is one of the most successful jewelry designers and business owners in the nation, and she will be speaking at the women’s conference about how to turn your passion into a business. Parlaying her artistic talent and business acumen into a profitable venture, Kendra will share the ups and downs of how she launched her company in 2002 with $500 to become a multi-million dollar brand. Based in Austin, Texas, her meticulously designed jewelry can be found globally.

UTMB physicians will address medical issues that are at the forefront of women’s concerns. Dr. Angelica S. Robinson, Assistant Professor of Radiology, UTMB, will speak on breast health. Named one of the “Best Doctors in America” 2005 – 2013, Dr. Vic Sierpina is popularly known for his weekly health column in the Galveston Co. Daily News. Board certified in both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, his practice includes acupuncture, nutrition, botanical medicine and mind-body therapies. Dr. Sierpina will show how to use the proven principles of mindfulness to enjoy better health, relationships, communication, and peace of mind. His current book, The Healthy Gut Workbook, will be available during the conference and a book signing is planned following his talk.

Dr. Sami Gokhan Kilic, pioneer of robotic surgery, author of more than 40 publications in medical literature, and editor of the textbook “Robotic Surgery”, performed the world’s first robotic cerclage operation on a pregnant woman. His research has led to innovative medical techniques that avoid surgery in female health care, such as utilizing nanotechnology for the treatment of fibroid uterus.

New to the event this year are high impact, interactive business sessions designed for sharing and learning new leadership skills. Small group discussions will focus on marketing, branding, customer service, communication, estate planning and testimonials from real business owners. The sessions will offer participants the opportunity to forge lasting connections, gain enhanced self-awareness of their roles, and to analyze their unique strengths.
