The Black Heritage Society respectfully requests the press and public be present at our upcoming rally to SAVE the sanctity of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Southeast Houston on Friday, June 4, 2010 @ 4:00 pm on Old Spanish Trail and Martin Luther King near (McGregor Park).
Metro is threatening to take rail straight down MLK Blvd. and destroy the tree planted to mark the spot where a statute is to be placed in honor of Dr. King, which will change the dynamics and possibly gentrify the entire area with this action.
This is a fight of David vs. Goliath, the people vs. the conglomerate, which is why The Black Heritage Society requests the community’s support and attendance to rally together and pray for help from the Creator. The Black Heritage Society is asking the community to join forces with them and other Religious Leaders and men and women of integrity, consciousness and good will.
The Black Heritage Society believes that the Houston public can no longer let others say what neighborhoods need and should look like.
Coalition Against Corridors, and many local Civic Clubs and Neighborhood Associations have also given their support.

The following is the The Black Heritage Society prayer call to Houston’s religious leaders:
“PRAYER RALLY TO SAVE MLK BLVD. ”
There are few occasions where a clarion call goes out for ECUMENICAL COOPERATION; and this is that call and the moment and the purpose is now! Join us, BLACK HERITAGE SOCIETY, as we struggle to save the quaint quiet homes of senior citizens in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard Area! The safety of school children, seniors, churches and businesses are at stake!
No matter how powerful METRO and the City of Houston are, the Creator has “All Power!” We can truly demonstrate this with our collective showing of unity on Friday, June 4, 2010, at 4 P.M. at Old Spanish Trail and MLK Boulevard, Center Median… (parking at McGregor Park). We are asking you to join other Religious Leaders and men and women of integrity, consciousness and good will to join forces to save the sanctity of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in Southeast Houston!
MLK Blvd. is not the only concern, the community is under fire of gentrification and disruption of their way of life in ways you can not imagine! Even though, this is a “David and Goliath” up hill battle, we have the Creator on our side! And you know how that story ended!
Your presence at this rally will make the difference!
Thank you in advance for your participation and support of this “Sacred Prayer Rally!”
Yours in Peace and Solidarity,
Ovide Duncantell, CEO
