Easter Seals Greater Houston Receives $30,000 Amerigroup Foundation Grant to Help Support Summer Camp Programs for Children with Disabilities

The City of Houston Proclaims “Amerigroup Healthy Heroes Day”

Today, the Amerigroup Foundation presented a $30,000 grant to Easter Seals Greater Houston to help support its summer camp programs for children with all types of disabilities.

“Enhancing the health and well-being of individuals and families in the communities that we serve is important to us and is why Amerigroup is thrilled to support Easter Seals Greater Houston’ summer camps,” said LeAnn Behrens, Amerigroup Texas President. “Through our partnership, more children will have the opportunity to attend camp where they will learn about living a healthy active lifestyle through the various activities and lessons,” said Behrens.

Amerigroup Foundation’s $30,000 grant will help provide scholarships for children to attend camps and subsidize program cost associated with the Camps for Children with Disabilities program. Easter Seals’ Camp Buckaroo and Camp Smiles give all children an opportunity to attend summer camp, regardless of their able needs. Amerigroup associates also are volunteering their time this week at Camp Buckaroo, and through Amerigroup’s Dollars for Doers program, which encourages year-round volunteerism and associates are able to turn volunteer hours into contributions for charities.

“Summer Camp would not be possible without funding from generous donors like Amerigroup Foundation as well as individual donors from the Houston community,” says Elise Hough, Easter Seals Greater Houston, Chief Executive Officer.

Texas State Representative Sarah Davis and Houston Fire Chief Terri Garrison joined Houston City Councilmember Ellen Cohen to honor the Amerigroup Foundation, and proclaim June 25, 2015 “Amerigroup Healthy Heroes Day”. Captain Amerigroup, Amerigroup’s friendly mascot, kicked off Camp Buckaroo with an energizer activity.
