Dynamo to host first leg of home-and-home series on March 5
HOUSTON, TX (Wednesday, December 19, 2012) — The Houston Dynamo learned the schedule for their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals series with Santos Laguna of Mexico as CONCACAF announced the schedule today. The home-and-home aggregate series will begin with the first leg at 7 p.m. CT on March 5 at BBVA Compass Stadium and conclude with the second leg on March 13 at Estadio Corona in Torreón, Mexico.
Tickets for the home match are included in Dynamo full season ticket packages. Individual tickets will go on sale in January but can be purchased now through full season and partial season ticket packages.
The Dynamo advanced to the quarterfinals by winning Group 3 of the Champions League, posting a 2-0-2 record in group play. It is Houston’s first quarterfinals appearance since 2009. The Dynamo have twice advanced to the tournament semifinals, in 2007 and 2008, when it was known as the Champions Cup.
Santos Laguna progressed to the quarterfinals after winning Group 1 in dominant fashion, winning all four group stage games with a +12 goal differential (13 GF, 1 GA). The Mexican club reached the 2012 Champions League Finals and fell to C.F. Monterrey, 3-2, in the aggregate series.
Santos Laguna, based in Torreón, Mexico, features U.S. men’s national team forward Hercules Gomez, Mexico international striker Oribe Peralta and Mexican national team goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez. Los Guerreros captured the Mexican League’s 2012 Clausura (Spring) championship.
The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals, which begin April 2-4. The winner of the CONCACAF Champions League will qualify for the 2013 FIFA Club World Cup, to be held in December 2013 in Morocco.
Full season ticket packages are on sale for as low as $400, with partial season ticket packages starting at $115. In addition, the Dynamo are offering a new Family Season Ticket Package for the 2013 season.
