Borris Miles, while being supported by diverse communities at the Pontikes home for his educational focus, highlights some of his past achievements as a State Representative. He spoke on his legislation creating the Office of the Ombudsman for the Texas Youth Commission, legislation requiring that truant students be returned to school campuses in lieu of jail as well as the creation of three management districts fostering economic development in the District, co-authoring legislation restoring 127,000 children to the Children’s Health Insurance Plan, and work done to ensure that Texas Southern University remains an independent institution, not under the care of a conservator.
