Houston, June 25, 2012 – While local employers search for solutions to find the right talent for today’s rapidly changing industries, Center for Houston’s Future is helping close those gaps by launching its My Degree Counts Employer Toolkit.
My Degree Counts is a comprehensive public engagement campaign led by Center for Houston’s Future to increase the region’s 2-and 4-year college graduation rate by at least 1%, and, in so doing, increase the region’s economy by $4.2 billion annually.
The My Degree Counts Employer Toolkit provides businesses and their employees access to resources that make it easy for them to complete their college degrees. Center for Houston’s Future encourages Houston area employers and prospective students to visit www.mydegreecounts.com for full details.
Bill DeLaney, President & CEO of Sysco Corporation, the largest non-energy related company headquartered in Houston with 47,000 employees throughout the US, Canada and Ireland, said, “One of our big challenges is finding enough trained and qualified employees at all levels of our business. My Degree Counts is an important approach to assist us in reaching our employment and business goals.”
The My Degree Counts Employer Toolkit specifically gives human resource managers the support needed to assist working adults through the everyday obstacles faced when going back to get their degree. The Toolkit includes downloadable promotional materials to communicate the initiative to employees, direct links to all local colleges and universities, and resources to organize workplace college fairs or seminars.
Chancellors from Lone Star College, Houston Community College, and San Jacinto College recently announced their collective partnership to increase college degree attainment through Center for Houston’s Future My Degree Counts. The announcement stated, “If we work together…we are well positioned to meet the needs of our dynamic business community, provide an energized and educated workforce, and create a better future for all of us.”
Center for Houston’s Future encourages all Houston area employers to step up and join this effort of achieving the talent dividend and having a better educated workforce and a more robust economy.
