BARC Saved 970 Animals in Month One of ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge $20 Dog and $10 Cat Adoptions All Weekend to Help “Adopt Our Way to the Top!” of the Competition

HOUSTON- After one full month of working with Houstonians to win the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, BARC is well on its way to meeting a goal of 2,100 dog and cat adoptions to win. The results are in for the first month of the ASPCA $100K Challenge and BARC is currently ranked 15th in the nation! BARC had the second highest total lives saved in August, with a staggering 970 lives saved, only behind a San Antonio shelter which saved 1,135 lives. The next closest competitor came in a distant third at 789 lives saved. Visit the ASPCA Leaderboard to see all 47 contestants’ progress.

“Thanks, Houston, for helping us save almost 1,000 dogs, puppies, cats and kittens in just one month,” said Alfred Moran, Director of the department which oversees BARC. “Our competitors are also doing an amazing job at saving lives and we need Houston’s help over the next month and a half to adopt our way to the top.”

In order to win the competition, BARC needs Houston’s help to find a new home for all of BARC’s animals starting this weekend. There a couple of ways you can find the perfect pet this Saturday and Sunday:

1. Saturday, September 15th is National Thank You Day and BARC is taking an opportunity all weekend to thank supporters and adopters for their help in making the $100K Challenge successful so far. Stop by BARC this Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm to join the celebration!

2. It’s also PetSmart’s National Adoption Weekend, so BARC is adding an extra day to the scheduled offsite adoption event at the PetSmart located at HW 290 and Hollister. BARC will have lots of adorable, fluffy friends available for adoption on Saturday from 11am – 3pm AND Sunday from 12:30pm to 3:30pm.

BARC will have $20 Dogs and $10 Cats at BARC and PetSmart #1045 ALL WEEKEND. Bring a copy of BARC’s flyer to either location, and name your own adoption fee for your new best friend! Get a copy of the flyer on BARC’s Facebook page or on the website.
