For the first time in BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions’ history, shelter staff and volunteers are coming together to hold a one-day pet adoption tour across Houston on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Houstonians can choose from seven adoption tour destinations all over town to find the perfect dog, puppy, cat or kitten.
BARC’s pet adoption tour locations include EnergyFest 2013 along Houston’s Energy Corridor, Heights First Saturday Event at Natural Pawz, the Galleria, PetSmart Tidwell location, Petco Copperfield location, Doggy Party on the Plaza at CITYCENTRE and BARC’s animal adoption facility at 3200 Carr Street. More details for each adoption destination are below.
“We are really stretching our limits for this big adoption tour. More than 50 volunteers are putting in more than 1500 hours combined in a single day to make this a big win for BARC’s animals. And those hours don’t even include the prep time for the events,” said Chris Newport, BARC spokesman. “The BARC pet adoption tour is one great example of an all-hands-on-deck approach to find permanent homes for these animals. We’ve gotten really good at mega pet adoption events and many other onsite and offsite events. Now we’re looking for brand new ways to put Houston’s homeless animals in front of adopters. This pet adoption tour is something we’ve never done and we’re really excited about it. As our foundation of volunteers and supporters continues to strengthen, we will keep finding new opportunities throughout the community to make sure BARC’s animals get the home they deserve.”
Houstonians can find BARC’s April 6th adoption tour destinations below or on BARC’s website. BARC owes a huge thanks to Proler Southwest/Sims Metal Management for generously underwriting and volunteering to help at these events.
BARC’s adoption fees are as follows: Dogs are $50, Cats are $20, and puppies and kittens 4 months and younger are $75 and $35 respectively. BARC’s pet adoption package includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a one-year city license, a pre-registered microchip with lifetime registration and more. Details about BARC’s adoption process and requirements are listed on the “About Adopting at BARC” page on BARC’s website. Houstonians who are unable to permanently adopt a pet but would like to help animals in need are encouraged to consider becoming a volunteer or foster pet parent.
Thanks to the growing support for BARC’s animals among Houstonians, volunteers and staff continue to hold adoption events in more and more Houston locations. The seven-destination adoption tour is just one of many BARC adoption events planned for 2013.
Pets currently available for adoption can be found on BARC’s website. Houstonians who are unable to stop by one of the adoption tour destinations on Saturday are encouraged to visit BARC’s adoption facility at 3200 Carr Street, Houston 77026 during business hours to find a new furry companion. BARC is open for adoptions every Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday-Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Visit www.HoustonBARC.com or www.Facebook.com/BARCHouston for more information.
