BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions to Honor Houston’s Wounded Military Veterans This Memorial Day Weekend

HOUSTON, TX – BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is honoring Houston’s wounded military veterans by holding a pet adoption event at the Chipotle Kid Power Festival at Discovery Green on Saturday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As part of this two-day festival featuring a Kids Swap Meet and an interactive performance by Polyglot Theatre, BARC will set up a mobile adoption center to facilitate pet adoptions for wounded U.S. veterans and the entire community. Dogs and puppies can be adopted for $37.50 and cats and kittens can be adopted for just $15.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to honor our City’s wounded military veterans this Memorial Day weekend,” said Carlene Lormand of BARC. “The event provides an excellent opportunity for BARC to give back to those who selflessly defended our country’s freedoms.”

In addition to Saturday’s special adoption event, BARC’s Veterans Companion Program provides ongoing special adoption pricing for Houston’s military veterans. Through a partnership with a national organization called Pets for Patriots, BARC established the program to allow veterans with proof of service to adopt animals from the shelter for half of the standard adoption fee any day of the week.

Every dog or cat adopted from BARC receives initial vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, a five-pound bag of Science Diet pet food and a Houston City Pet License. BARC dogs also receive a free 6-week AKC obedience training class if the owner chooses to enroll their pet. Military veterans and members of the community who adopt a pet at BARC’s adoption event this Saturday will also receive the package.

“We are proud of our military veterans and appreciate every opportunity to provide them with a four-legged friend who will offer them unconditional love and companionship every day,” said Lormand.
