BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions Reducing Adoptions Fees This Weekend To Continue Momentum in the ASPCA $100K Challenge

HOUSTON - BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is celebrating a successful first week of adoptions in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge by reducing cat/kitten adoption fees to $10 and dog/puppy adoption fees to $20. The reduced adoption fees will be valid from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. from Saturday, August 11 through Sunday, August 12 at BARC’s facility located at 3200 Carr Street, Houston 77026.

In addition to the special pricing available at BARC’s facility, the animal shelter is highlighting its weekly offsite adoption events at two local Petco locations in celebration of Petco’s national adoption weekend August 11 – 12. Every Saturday, BARC holds an adoption event at the Petco located at Hwy 6 North and FM 529 (Copperfield) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The animal shelter also holds an adoption event every Sunday at the Petco located at Westheimer and Wilcrest from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dogs and puppies are availabe for a $20 adoption fee and cats and kittens are available for a $10 adoption fee at both Petco locations.

BARC also hosts weekly adoption events at the Petsmart located at Highway 290 and Hollister and the Galleria Mall, located at 5085 Westheimer Rd (BARC is set up between the Westin Hotel entrance and the Baby Gap) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday. Dogs/puppies can be adopted for $20 and cats/kittens can be adopted for $10. Click here to visit BARC’s website to learn more about weekly offsite adoption events.

BARC’s adoption process including basic eligibility requirements is listed on the “About Adopting at BARC” page on BARC’s website. All animals offered for adoption are spayed or neutered and have received age-appropriate vaccinations, a City license tag and a microchip. Additionally, canine adopters receive a free voucher for a 6-week AKC obedience training class at BARC’s facility.

“We started the ASPCA $100,000 Challenge with great momentum and we are doing everything we can to continue increasing adoptions and saving lives throughout the Challenge,” said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC. “We are trying to provide as many opportunities as possible – through onsite and offsite adoption events – for Houstonians to adopt from BARC. And if we win the Challenge, we will purchase a mobile adoption unit that will allow us to expand our offsite adoption events to the entire City of Houston.”

BARC plans to hold numerous onsite and offsite adoption events throughout the ASPCA $100K Challenge to help reach its goal of 2,100 adoptions to win the $100,000 grand prize grant.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
