BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions: Mayor Parker’s Pets of the Week

HOUSTON – BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions announced the Mayor’s Pets of the Week with Houston’s Mayor Annise Parker: Chance, a brown Tabby Domestic Short Hair mix kitten and Senorita, a German Shepherd/Pointer/Doberman Pinsch mix puppy. The photos can also be viewed on BARC’s Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

Since the national ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge began on August 1, BARC has reached more than 460 dog and cat adoptions. BARC is working diligently to reach its goal of 2,100 adoptions by October 31, 2012. The animal shelter is confident that with the increased awareness across Houston’s community, and strong support from Mayor Annise Parker, BARC will save more lives than ever.

“We are luck to have the opportunity to partner with Mayor Parker each week to showcase some of the many wonderful animals available for adoption at BARC.” said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC. “We are on track to win this competition and look forward to continuing to save more and more animals each day.”

Chance and Senorita, the Mayor’s Pets of the Week are available for adoption. Details listed below.

Name: Chance
Animal ID: A1094540
Breed: Brown Tabby Domestic Short Hair Mix
Age: About 14 weeks
More about Chance: Chance is a playful little kitten who loves attention. He likes to run around and explore but changes gear and purrs away when you hold him (and scratch between his ears). He has a shiny black and brown coat and big, adorable ears. Chance was taken into BARC as a stray, but has been neutered, given age-appropriate vaccinations, and received a city license and microchip. Now he is ready to go home with his forever family.

Name: Senorita
Animal ID: A1094575
Breed: German Shepherd/Pointer/Doberman Pinsch Mix
Age: About 16 weeks
More about Senorita: Senorita is a little shy when you first meet her, but she warms up to you quickly and becomes a playful little puppy. In addition to her playfulness and friendly personality, she is a lap dog in the making. Her color is beautiful and dynamic too: she has a primarily black coat with a white chest and paws, and a splash of brown in several places. And to top it off, she has a little white tip at the end of her tail! Senorita was taken to BARC as a stray, but has been spayed, given age-appropriate vaccinations, and received a city license and microchip. Now she is ready to go home with her new family!

Chance and Senorita are two of many animals at BARC waiting for their new home. Visit www.Facebook.com/BARCHouston to find out more about the Mayor’s Pets of the Week and other animals at BARC.

Update on last week’s Mayor’s Pets of the Week: Louise, the white and orange Pointer mix puppy, has been adopted. Jasper, the adorable and playfulwhite and tan Domestic Short Hair mix kitten is still available for adoption at the Petco located at Westheimer and Wilcrest.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
