BARC Adds More Holiday Cheer to Mayor Parker’s Pets of the Week

Meet Freeda and Rico, Two of Many BARC Animals That Deserve Loving Homes This Holiday Season

HOUSTON- BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions added more holiday cheer to the Mayor’s Pets of the Week with photos in front of the City of Houston Hanukkah menorah. Pets of the Week photos below can also be viewed on BARC’s Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

“Every adoptable dog and cat at BARC deserves a great home before the new year,” said Chris Newport, BARC spokesman. “There are hundreds of dogs and cats at BARC that don’t currently have a family but very much deserve one. Our hope is that Houstonians come to our shelter and meet Freeda, Rico and the hundreds of others animals that want nothing more than a bed to sleep in and a family to love.”

Freeda, a 15-week-old Domestic Short Hair mix kitten, and Rico, an 8-year-old Pomeranian mix, are available for adoption at BARC.

Name: Freeda
Animal ID: A1106781
Breed: Domestic Short Hair Mix
Age: Approximately 15 weeks old
More about Freeda: Freeda is a very sweet kitten that deserves a wonderful home this holiday season. Freeda was taken into BARC as a stray with three other siblings. Now, Freeda and her siblings are ready to go home with their forever family. Freeda is a purrfurred pet at BARC, meaning she has been at the shelter 20 days or longer. If you are looking for the perfect kitty to curl up on your lap to watch your favorite holiday movie, Freeda is your girl. She is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.

Name: Rico
Animal ID: A1108833
Breed: Pomeranian Mix
Age: Approximately 8 years old
More about Rico: Rico is soft and cuddly, and would make the perfect pet for just about any family. He was surrendered to BARC by his previous owner who could no longer afford him. Rico is quite the charmer and has endless amounts of love to give. He is crate trained, knows a few commands, walks well on a leash and has the cutest little face that screams “adopt me”. Anyone who takes just one look at this little guy will undoubtedly have to take him home as their forever furry friend. If you’re looking for a dog that is playful and loving but is past the puppy stage, Rico is perfect for you. Rico is neutered, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.

Be sure to stop by and meet the Mayor’s Pets of the Week and hundreds of other animals waiting for their new home this holiday season.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
