BARC Adds a Little Holiday Cheer to the Mayor’s Pets of the Week: Marty and Mindy

HOUSTON- BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions added a little bit of holiday cheer this week to the Mayor’s Pets of the Week with photos in front of the holiday tree at City Hall. Pets of the Week photos below can also be viewed on BARC’s Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

“Mayor Parker is a wonderful advocate for BARC’s animals. We appreciate her partnership in making sure Marty, Mindy and the many other adoptable animals at BARC get the home they deserve,” said Chris Newport, BARC spokesman. “Every dog and cat at BARC has a unique look and personality, and every single one of them should be able to share that with a new family. We ask that Houstonians join our effort to save lives by adopting, fostering and volunteering at BARC this holiday season. Every person that gets involved means one more animal’s life saved.”

Marty, an English Springer Spaniel mix is available for adoption, but Mindy, a Domestic Short Hair mix, was adopted soon after returning to the shelter following her photo shoot with Mayor Parker. However, Mindy has three adorable sisters who are waiting at BARC to find their forever home.

Name: Marty
Animal ID: A1099119
Breed: English Springer Spaniel Mix
Age: Approximately 4 Years Old
More about Marty: Marty is the poster child for man’s best friend. He is friendly and playful, and loves to be around people. He would make a great family pet. He has quite the personality, too. This became evident during his photo shoot with the Mayor when he plopped right down next to her and attempted to give her a giant puppy kiss. Then he rolled over so that the Mayor could pet his belly. This sweet dog feels comfortable around anyone and everyone. There doesn’t seem to be a single shy bone in his body. His beautiful brown, white and black colors, along with his unique markings, make him one-of-a-kind. Marty was sick when he entered BARC and was welcomed into a BARC foster home. Now he is in great health and ready to go home with his new best friend. He is neutered, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.

Name: Mindy
Animal ID: A1098203
Breed: Domestic Short Hair Mix
Age: Approximately 13 weeks old
More about Mindy: Mindy and her three sisters entered BARC at a very young age and were taken into a foster home by a BARC foster pet parent. The foster parent took care of the little kittens at her home in order to socialize and prepare them for permanent adoption. Although Mindy was adopted soon after returning to BARC following her photo shoot with Mayor Parker, Mindy’s three sisters are fully vetted and waiting at BARC for their forever families. The kittens love to be held and loved on, but they also enjoy playing and exploring their surroundings. These cuties won’t last long at BARC – just like their sister, Mindy. Stop by the shelter today and make one of these kittens the newest member of your family. The kittens are spayed, have age-appropriate vaccinations, have a city license and are microchipped.

Update on last week’s Mayor’s Pets of the Week: Tammie, the Labrador Retriever mix has been adopted, and Metya, the Domestic Short Hair mix cat has been transferred to a rescue group.

Be sure to stop by and meet the Mayor’s Pets of the Week and hundreds of other animals waiting for their new home this holiday season.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
