Come out and enjoy a beautiful spring day among the towering oak trees of Elizabeth Baldwin Park. Hear live music provided by local musicians from the vibrant Houston music scene, enjoy delicious munchies, and most importantly, check out all the amazing art! The Annual Midtown Art in the Park fine art festival brings together a diversified group of artists who work in a wide rage of mediums from photography, painting and pottery to sculpture, jewelry and hand-blown glass, and much, much more! Enjoy your day as you stroll along a quarter mile walking path that meanders through Elizabeth Baldwin Park. Towering oak trees, picnic and game tables, signature Midtown benches, a children’s playground and a Heritage Gazebo make this festival a unique urban event.

Check out the music! Art in the Park 2012 is bringing you some of the most talented, up and coming bands, musicians, and performers that the city has to offer. Live entertainment by: Fox and Cats (www.reverbnation.com/foxcats), Wesley Lunsford (www.myspace.com/wesleylunsford), Clory Martin (www.clorymartin.com), Days Drive (www.daysdrive.com), Yello Echo (www.reverbnation.com/yelloecho), and The Ensemble Theatre (www.ensemblehouston.com).

Additionally, the famed Midtown Graffiti Wall will be making its return to be adorned by the renowned graffiti artists of Aerosol Warfare. For 2012, the graffiti wall will be reinstalled and two new panels will be added. Gonzo, of Aerosol Warfare, will be present and working hard as he ‘tags’ these new panels throughout the day of the festival. After you visit the Graffiti Wall, get in touch with your inner artist at the Central Bank Happy Hour Studios Painting Party. This year, Happy Hour Studios will introduce a new Midtown scene /icon for you to paint. Now you can have a pair of Midtown themed paintings that YOU painted all by yourself…with the help of Happy Hour Studios. If you didn’t paint the image of ‘Baldwin Park’ last year, remember to sign up for both paintings this year in order to have the pair! Enjoy LIVE artist demonstrations by Jan Johnson, of Letterscapes, who will be showcasing her unique process of photography as she creates words by combining images from everyday life. Nationally recognized artist Nubia Siebert, just back from the L.A. Contemporary Art Festival, will do a live abstract painting demonstration on stage. Is it time to take a little break?  Walk on over to the Texas Beer Garden and enjoy an ice cold beer or glass of wine with a couple of friends.

About Midtown Art in the Park:

Midtown Art in the Park was created by the Marketing and Perception Committee of the Midtown Management District under the direction of committee chair Adam Brackman and Managing Director, Cynthia Alvarado in 2007. Midtown is a community steeped in cultural life with a heritage that runs deep and wide throughout Houston. Many of Houston’s oldest and most esteemed cultural arts organizations are home or were founded in the Midtown community. The goal of this urban fine arts festival is to continue to contribute to the cultural life of the community, specifically by producing a quality fine art/fine craft festival. Art in the Park is underwritten by the Midtown Management District and is sponsored by Silver Eagle Distributors, and Central Bank – Midtown.

If you’re interested in sponsorship opportunities, please contact Cynthia Alvarado at cynthiaa@houstonmidtown.com.

Local arts and cultural organizations have the opportunity to distribute information about their organizations and activities. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about cultural events and organizations in Midtown and throughout Houston! Stop by and visit with these groups one on one. If you are interested in having your organization participate in the festival as an Arts Advocate, please email Katherine Mestousis at kmestousis@houstonmidtown.com.
