Ambassadors Foundation in collaboration with Second Baptist Church is hosting a community spring cleaning and beautification from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on March 17 – 19 at Lang Thai Xuan Village, located at 8200 Broadway Blvd., Houston, TX 77061.
“The event is an effort to promote healthy living for seniors while teaching young adults to give back to a community where 60 percent of the population is more than 60 years old,” says Dr. Victoria Ai Linh Bryant, President of Ambassador Foundation.
The project involves cleaning and painting the Lang Thai Xuan community, creating planter boxes, mulching trees, and redefining and painting the parking pavements. On Wednesday, March 19, there will be a magic show and light lunch for children and residents to celebrate the spring break. All efforts, labor and materials are free to the community. Approximately 150 young adults have signed up to volunteer for the event.
Lang Thai Xuan Village is amulti-family condominium complex in southeast Houston that houses a population of Vietnamese immigrants, many of whom were refugees and veterans of the Vietnam War. In the past few years, the building, which houses approximately 380 units for about 1,400 people, has been struggling to maintain a standard quality of living conditions for its residents who also have a big need formedical care.
“We have been working with the Village’s General Manager Steven Tran to identify ongoing projects,” says Dr. Bryant. “We hope to continue working with this community and others in Houston that serve the aging population to further promote healthy living for seniors.”
