Adult Summer Reading Club – Summer Strikes Back at the Houston Public Library

This year, adults are invited to pick up some good books to read and join the Houston Public Library’s (HPL) Adult Summer Reading Club: Summer Strikes Back. Adults 18 an older can sign up now through August 1, 2012 and earn a great prize. There will be monthly drawings for a Kindle Fire (ereader). The number of entries for the monthly Kindle Fire drawings will be based on how many books the registered participant has entered in their online reading log, so the more books read, the better the chances of winning! The Adult Summer Reading Club is a free online club and is open to the public.

For more information, visit www.houstonlibrary.org or call 832-393-1313.

Adults can sign-up at home or wherever they have a computer available at www.houstonlibrary.org/asrc. They can also visit their nearest HPL location and have a librarian guide them through the process. An HPL Power Card is required to check out books or ebooks. The Power Card is available at any library location and is free. Customers must apply in person and they must provide a valid photo I.D. (generally a Texas Driver’s License or Texas I.D.) which contains their current address.

For more details on the HPL Power Card visit www.houstonlibrary.org/powercard.

It is easy to participate; customers read books in any format, and enter the book title read in their online reading log. If participants are not sure what they want to read, they can get great book selection suggestions by visiting www.houstonlibrary.org/readerslink. Participants will find a book list featuring more than 100 favorite books recommended by HPL librarians. There are also lists for nonfiction, fiction, classics, new books at HPL, Dublin Literacy Award books, virtual book display, and much more. Participants can also join one of several HPL Book Clubs that meet at some neighborhood libraries to discuss the selected book being read and even make new friends. If time is a problem, visit the library’s catalog website at www.houstonlibrary.org, and select a book and place it on hold for pick-up at a favorite HPL library.

For participants who prefer audio books or ebooks, visit www.houstonlibrary.org/reading-online-or-for-portable-reading-devices to borrow and download them. There are also a variety of online resources for Kindle and Nook compatible ebook readers.
