Meet the brains behind Houston’s booming wine business
HOUSTON, TX (Oct. 2, 2012) – The father and son duo of Wayne and Warren Luckett have entered their formidable selection of South African wine into the Texas market. While there are many players in the wine community, this African American family brings a new flavor to the table.
South African wine has been pouring for more than 300 years, but the end of apartheid in the late 1980s released trade restrictions and opened the nation’s ability to sell it elsewhere. The Lucketts knew that Texans could appreciate the earthy smoothness of the wine they’d grown to love. After years of living in South Africa where Wayne finished a three decade career telecommunications, he teamed up with his son Warren and formed Branwar Wines with South Africa as their focus.
The name, “Branwar” is the combination of Brandon and Warren (Brandon being Wayne’s other son). As a Wall Street experienced businessman, Warren involves himself in every aspect of growing his family brand. He works to offer high quality and great value. “Our goal is to build a business where we can stand behind every product. We want our clients to offer their customers a great product at a competitive price”.
Word of the Branwar’s high quality wines quickly spread throughout the state. Texas retailers and restaurateurs have recognized the rich flavors South Africa has to offer, as Branwar wines are on shelves and tables from San Antonio and Dallas to Houston and Austin. These stores and restaurants have also been more than happy to refer Branwar Wines to other potential clients.
Branwar prides itself on a wide selection of earthy flavorful wines, where any wine lover can find something to enjoy. Their growing list of brands includes Stellekaya Cabernet Sauvignon, Passages Chardonnay, DuVon Shiraz and Stellenbosch Hills Chenin Blanc. Many Houston area restaurants, stores, wine bars and country clubs carry Branwar’s bottles.
The Lucketts are increasingly recognized as industry experts in the region. They participate in local events which will include the prestigious International Wine Competition for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, HEB Grand Food and Wine Event and Houston Wine Fest . Warren also educates Texans with wine tasting tips on the company’s Facebook page, and updates new selection announcements on Twitter.
