BARC Pets of the Week, Ringo and Penny, and Hundreds of Other Pets Waiting at BARC For the Perfect New Family
As animal intake continues to rise at BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions, staff and volunteers hope to place numerous dogs and cats like Mayor Parker’s BARC Pets of the Week, Ringo and Penny, in permanent homes this weekend. With up to 135 animals coming into BARC in a single day, BARC is working to take adoptable animals into Houston’s community as frequently as possible.
BARC will have dogs and cats available for adoption at the annual SportsRadio 610 Fan Fest on Sunday, May 19, noon to 4 p.m. at the University of Houston Athletic Alumni Center, 3100 Cullen Blvd. Houston, 77204. Sports fans and all pet fans are sure to find a couch buddy that fits in perfectly with the family. Visit www.HoustonBARC.com to get more information about BARC’s adoption fees and requirements. Adoptions include spay/neuter surgery, a one year City of Houston license, a pre-registered microchip with lifetime registration and age-appropriate vaccinations.
“There are hundreds of animals at BARC waiting to find a forever home, and we like having the opportunity to go out into the community for events like the SportsRadio 610 Fan Fest so that Houstonians can see the great animals we have for adoption,” said Chris Newport, BARC spokesman.
Additionally, BARC animals will be available for adoption at the regular weekly offsite events: On Saturday, offsite adoption events include the Galleria Mall across from Gap from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Petco #473 on Hwy 6 North at FM 529 (Copperfield) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Petsmart #1045 on 290 at Hollister from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Sunday, BARC animals will be available for adoption at Petco #1449 on Westheimer at Wilcrest from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Houstonians interested in adopting an animal, volunteering or fostering a pet can visit www.HoustonBARC.com for more information. BARC’s facility, located at 3200 Carr Street, Houston 77026, is open for adoptions every Tuesday-Wednesday and Friday-Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
Learn more about Penny and Ringo, Mayor Parker’s BARC Pets of the Week, below. You can also view them at www.Facebook.com/BARCHouston.
Penny is very sweet and calm girl that would do great in just about any family. She is a two-year-old Golden Retriever and Collie mix. Penny loves hugs and is friendly to everyone she meets. She loves lots of attention from people and visits everyone in sight to get a good scratch behind her ears. She loves to go for car rides and walks well on a leash. Though Penny is calm, she will need to go on plenty of walks and get some outside time with her new family. She is a also a great candidate for a family that has other pets, as she seems to get along with everyone, including four legged companions. Penny is spayed, has age-appropriate vaccinations, a one-year city license and a pre-registered microchip with lifetime registration. She is ready to go home today. Penny’s BARC ID is A1144974.
Ringo is a stunning Domestic Short Hair mix with a personality that can steal anyone’s heart. He is a little over a year old and just returned
to BARC after a being fostered by BARC’s very own adoptions coordinator while he got over a slight case of the sniffles. He is now completely healthy and ready to go home with a forever family. Ringo has a beautiful coat and a great personality to match. He enjoys lots of attention from people, but he also likes to explore his surroundings by jumping from chairs to kitty treehouses to couches and so on. He loves to play and gets along well with other cats. Ringo is neutered, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a pre-registered microchip with lifetime registration and a one-year city license. His BARC ID is A1140637.
Update on last week’s Pets of the Week: Poncho (A1125913), last week’s dog of the week, is still available. Holly, last week’s cat of the week, has been adopted. Please stop by BARC this weekend and meet the many dogs and cats available for adoption.

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
