Hit R&B Group Mint Condition to Perform at 2013 Texas Black Expo Outdoor Concert at Discovery Green

The Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, a strategic partner of the Texas Black Expo, and the city of Houston are preparing to welcome local and regional guests to the largest African American cultural marketing tradeshow and urban festival in the state of Texas. The 10th annual Juneteenth Summer Celebration will be held June 21-23, 2013 at the George R. Brown Convention Center, Hall A. Featuring a number of corporate events, a career fair, receptions and parties, seminars, a tradeshow featuring aisles and aisles of small and corporate businesses, a Naturalista Pavilion, a health and wellness pavilion, a youth summit, a gospel explosion and an outdoor concert, the family-friendly event is designed to appeal to guests of all ages and interests.

The Texas Black Expo is pleased to announce recently-added R&B group Mint Condition to its entertainment line-up, which will headline the Old School Hip-Hop and R&B Concert at Discovery Green on Saturday, June 22nd at 6 pm. The Outdoor Concert is sponsored by Bud Lite and Silver Eagle Distributors and is a ticketed event.

Legendary R&B group Mint Condition was anointed early-on by superstar producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (formerly of the band The Time) and has continued its trajectory of musical success ever since. Mint Condition does it all, delivering hard-bitten funk with a hip hop edge, rocking out with screaming lead guitar, and crooning lush, “baby-making” soul ballads. The much sought after band, which marks its 20th anniversary this year, has amassed a string of hits and performs hundreds of live shows each year. Two decades on, Mint Condition stands along with The Roots as the only high-profile examples of a self-contained, hit-making Black music band, and with Mint’s emphasis on songs and great singing, it is the sole band carrying on the great tradition of R&B funk bands today.

“We are excited about the opportunity to once again present first-rate entertainment to all of our guests that will be attending the Juneteenth Summer Celebration, especially in light of this being the year that we commemorate our ten-year anniversary,” says Jerome Love, President of the Texas Black Expo. “Working in conjunction with our corporate sponsors and strategic partners like the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, we anticipate once again attracting large numbers of guests to Houston from throughout Texas and Louisiana so that they can also experience all of the fun and entertainment that the Expo has to offer.”

The Texas Black Expo Juneteenth Summer Celebration will be held June 21 – 23, 2013 at the George R. Brown Convention Center (Hall A). The event provides an opportunity for business owners on all levels to network and display their goods and services to a diverse audience. Further, the Texas Black Expo will offer FREE Expo admission to all guests at the Expo tradeshow and thus anticipates more than 15,000 attendees throughout the course of the weekend. (Note: R&B concert is not included with free admission and is a ticketed event) Expo activities will include a Green Zone, mega health fair, a real estate forum, a college fair and youth summit, a Saturday Old School Hip-Hop and R&B Concert at Discovery Green, and a dynamic Sunday gospel explosion.

The Texas Black Expo is a popular business and consumer regional event attracting thousands in recent years to Houston, a business-friendly city recognized as one of the country’s top five markets for African Americans to live, work, and own their own business. The Texas Black Expo’s Juneteenth Summer Celebration is the largest African American consumer marketing tradeshow and urban festival in the state.
