BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has announced Alabama A&M University forward, Jasmine Sanders, and Texas Southern University guard, Te’era Williams, as SWAC Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week.
Both receive their first weekly accolade on the season.
Sanders, a junior from Chester, S.C., averaged 22 points and eight rebounds per game to help AAMU split conference play last week. She shot 65.2 percent from the field while hitting 50 percent from the arc.
To start the week, she posted 12 points, six rebounds and five steals in AAMU’s 64-44 win over Alcorn State (Jan. 19). She hit 5-of-8 from the floor in 27 minutes of action.
Despite the Lady Bulldogs dropping a 76-63 decision to league leading Southern University, Sanders scored the most points in a game on a season by a SWAC player with 32. She hit 10-of-15 overall and connected 11-of-13 free throws. Sanders also finished with a double-double hauling in 10 rebounds.
Williams averaged a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds to help TSU pick up both road wins to notch six consecutive victories. A freshman from Oklahoma City, Okla., Williams recorded 22 points and 16 rebounds to help carry the Lady Tigers to a 65-61 win at Arkansas-Pine Buff (Jan.19). She followed with 16 points and 10 boards at Mississippi Valley State to pace TSU to a 58-47 win (Jan.21). On the week, she shot 40 percent overall while hitting 79 percent from the charity stripe.
