Go Gardening Series at the Houston Public Library

Whether you think you have a green thumb or not you’re invited to join the Go Gardening program series at the Houston Public Library. This innovative and fun program will teach everyone all they need to know about how to start their own backyard garden. Container and community gardening will also be covered. The Go Gardening program series happens every Saturday during January and February at 12 PM (noon) in the Freed-Montrose Neighborhood Library, 4100 Montrose Blvd., 77006, 832-393-1800. The programs are free and open to the public. For more details visit or call 832-393-1313.

Backyard gardening is becoming one of the solutions for sustainable living which begins by providing families with nutrient dense food from their home garden. Gardens lower the cost of providing families with healthy, organic vegetables and reduce the environmental impact of transporting and warehousing food. Sustainable living makes meals more personal and interesting; connects families to the natural cycles of weather, growth and renewal, and provides wholesome activities and lasting memories for adults and children.

Topics to be covered include garden layout, bed preparation, growing garden maintenance, harvesting and storing. Customers are invited to BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch).
