HCC elects officers for the New Year

Perez moves on to State

HOUSTON (January 4, 2013) – The Houston Community College Board of Trustees elected Bruce A. Austin, trustee for District II, as HCC Board Chairman for 2013. Austin is the longest serving trustee on the HCC board, representing District II since 1989. He was chairman from 1990 to 1992 and again from 2000 to 2002. The HCC Board also elected Trustee Sandie Mullins, District VI, as Vice Chair and Trustee Eva Loredo, District VIII, as Secretary.

The HCC Board unanimously voted to install Herlinda Garcia, a former HCC trustee (1989-2003) and principal of Houston Independent School District’s J.P. Henderson Elementary School, as the trustee for HCC District III. Trustee Garcia is required to run for re-election in November 2013.

Perez is leaving the HCC Board to assume the responsibilities as the newly-elected State Representative for District 144. Perez served as chairman of the HCC Board in 2012. Perez was elected to the HCC Board of Trustees in 2009 and served as HCC Board Vice Chair in 2011. As a trustee, she dedicated her time on the HCC Board to working with the community and area employers to ensure HCC programs met the needs for today’s workforce. Perez understands how vital education is to the success of Houston’s southeast community, the Greater Houston Area and the State of Texas. She will continue to work in the interests of higher education in Austin.
