Nearly 200 juniors and seniors from five area high schools will participate in the Business of Sports program presented by BBVA Compass, the Houston Dynamo, Dynamo Charities (the charitable arm of the Houston Dynamo), and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas.
On Tuesday, students will learn what it takes to establish careers for themselves in the sports management and financial services industries — from financing a stadium to managing athletes’ money. After hearing from panels of bankers and sports management experts, students can attend a Houston Dynamo match against Honduras’ Olimpia at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Business of Sports program began last month and Tuesday’s event is part of a multi-pronged approach to educating students about workforce readiness and financial literacy. The first part was a financial literacy program presented by BBVA Compass employee volunteers that featured Junior Achievement’s personal finance program and incorporated Get Smart About Credit, the bank’s signature financial education program.
