HOUSTON, Oct. 17, 20012 — Houston Airport System public information officer Darian Ward was recognized by the Steed Society as one of “The Top 25Women of Houston.”
Ward and the other honorees were recognized at the 7th Annual Top 25 Women of Houston awards ceremony, held on October 5 at the Houstonian hotel.
Ward was recognized for her recent contributions as a public information officer, as well as her previous work as a Houston television journalist.
“This definitely stands out as a highlight in my professional career,” Ward says. “It was almost overwhelming to have my parents and my husband see me stand alongside so many strong, successful women. It was an amazing moment.”
The awards, presented by Comerica Bank, seek to honor those women who have broken barriers in their respective fields and left an indelible mark on the face of Houston.
The list of recipients in 2012 includes business leaders, medical professionals, entrepreneurs and educators.
Ward’s most recent accomplishments involve her work with the Houston Airport System, where she’s served as the department’s spokesperson and advanced key programs, such as the Government Procurement Connections initiative.
“Darian Ward is committed to advancing the interests of the Houston Airport System as she strives for excellence and supports her community,” said Saba Abashawl, chief external affairs officer. “We are pleased that she was honored with this award as the public information officer for Bush Intercontinental, Hobby and Ellington Airports.”
Prior to her arrival at the aviation department in 2008, Ward was employed as a news anchor in the Houston television market.
“Both careers have encouraged me to stay active in the Houston community,” Ward says. “I don’t think you can excel in either capacity, news anchor or public information officer, without having a strong sense of connection with the people you’re serving.”
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee served as the keynote speaker for the evening, offering sage words of wisdom to the honorees.
