Building Key Relationships With The City of Houston Will Help Your Business Grow

City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity embraces building relationships with local small business owners

Houston, October 5, 2012 – The City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity (OBO) is adamant about helping local small businesses grow so much so that it is opening its doors for the public to see and experience firsthand the Department’s efforts to provide optimum services efficiently through centralizing its core services. OBO invites businesses to meet and interact with the OBO team at its Open House and Grand Opening of the new Houston Business Solutions Center on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. located at 611 Walker, Lobby Level, Houston, Texas 77002.

“OBO understands that most business opportunities stem from established relationships matched with developed skills and timing,” says Director Carlecia D. Wright. “We want business owners to build relationships with our internal team to help facilitate further success and growth of their businesses.”

At this meet and greet event attendees will hear from Director Wright as she talks about the new initiatives of the Department and highlights OBO successes and business success stories. Attendees can also participate in a workshop on how to do business with the City of Houston, learn how to utilize the all-new Houston Business Solutions Center and can apply for Hire Houston First designation, an initiative developed by Mayor Annise Parker in an effort to promote economic opportunity for Houston businesses and to support job creation.

The new Houston Business Solutions Center, formerly One Stop Business Center, will function as an information clearinghouse for people wishing to start or operate a business in the Houston metropolitan area.  Services include a free Getting Started Packet, containing information on relevant permits and licenses; technical assistance; financing resources; the provision of business management counseling courtesy of SCORE; and the creation of business workshops and programs on a number of business-related topics. In addition, Houston Business Solutions Center administers City Business and Local Business designations for the Hire Houston First program.

The Office of Business Opportunity is committed to creating a competitive and diverse business environment in the City of Houston by promoting the growth and success of local small businesses, with special emphasis on historically underutilized groups by ensuring their meaningful participation in the government procurement process.
