BARC Dog Wins Houston Mayor Annise Parker’s Heart: Photo Shoot Ends in the Parker Family’s First BARC Adoption

HOUSTON- Last week’s Mayor’s BARC Pets of the Week photo shoot began as it always does, but ended quite differently. Little Oreo (now Jax), a Border Terrier/Cocker Spaniel mix puppy, won Mayor Parker’s heart as soon as he walked into City Hall. Like most dogs at BARC, Jax was charming and playful, and most of all had lots of love and puppy kisses to give. It comes as no surprise that the Mayor knew immediately that Jax was the perfect dog for her family.

The Mayor ultimately decided that Jax was the perfect dog for her son. Now Jax is making himself at home with his new owner, Jovon, and Mayor Parker looks forward to babysitting as much as possible.

“We are so excited for the Mayor and the newest member of the Parker family,” said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC. “Jax, like all of the dogs and cats at BARC, is wonderful and is sure to make the perfect pet! One of the best things about BARC is that we have many different kinds of dogs and cats, so every Houstonian can find the best match for their family.”

Jax and many other Mayor’s Pets of the Week have found their forever homes, and this week, Twinney, a black and white domestic short hair mix kitten, and Knight, a Chihuahua mix dog are in the spotlight as this week’s Mayor’s Pets of the Week. Photos of Twinney and Knight can be viewed below and on BARC’s Facebook Page:

BARC’s staff, volunteers and supporters continue to work tirelessly to save more lives than ever and win the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. Since August 1, BARC has found homes for 1,054 dogs and cats.
