Mayor Annise Parker will be on hand as Rebuilding Together drives first nail for modular home being built at the Democratic National Convention for a deserving American veteran. The project began last week in Tampa at the Republican National Convention when the first half of the home was built during the Republican National Convention. The second half of the home will be built this week during the Democratic National Convention. After the two halves of the home are built during their respective conventions, the home will be united in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlotte and in October, the keys to the home will be turned over to the veteran. Mayor Parker will use the event as the backdrop for a congratulatory message for Rebuilding Together – Houston, which will celebrate its 30 anniversary September 10, 2012.

Starting September 6, 2012, 400 Home Depot volunteers will help RT-H rehabilitate 10 homes owned by local veterans. Another 50-75 volunteer home repair projects are planned for October 20 and October 27th.

RT-H is Houston’s largest community outreach organization working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods, both of which are central to Mayor Parker’s priorities of jobs and quality of life.
