HOUSTON– BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is making a huge push to reach 700 dog and cat adoptions in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100,000 Challenge by August 31. With a goal of 2,100 dog and cat adoptions by October 31, reaching 700 adoptions by the end of this month puts BARC exactly one-third of the way to the goal, which is right on track. Additionally, a $5,000 grant for the challenge contestant in each of the five divisions that saves the most dogs and cats compared to August 2011, is at stake. With Houstonians’ help, BARC can easily meet the goal and win the $5,000 grant for its adoption program.
Since August 1, 650 dogs and cats have gone home with their forever families. With only 50 adoptions to go, BARC is starting its Name-Your-Own-Adoption-Fee “Labor of Love” weekend adoption event Friday, August 31. The promotion is valid for dogs and cats four months old and older and will continue through Sunday, September 2 at BARC located at 3200 Carr Street, Houston, TX 77026. Puppies and kittens under 4 months will be available for $20 and $10 respectively. Click here to see BARC’s hours of operation.
“We want to start September as the front runner in the ASPCA $100,000 Challenge and with the Houston’s help, we can make it happen,” said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC. “We are well on our way to meeting our goal of 2,100 dog and cat adoptions by October 31, but we have to keep building the momentum. Now is the time to adopt a new best friend from BARC and be a part of our effort to save more lives than ever.”
BARC’s adoption package includes spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccinations, a city license and a microchip. This adoption package could cost hundreds if purchased through certain breeders or veterinarians. Find out more about adopting at BARC by visiting the shelter’s website.
To continue building interest in BARC and the ASPCA $100K Challenge, BARC is rapidly creating and releasing videos that give Houstonians a snapshot of life at BARC. The latest video features BARC’s Shelter Manager, Charles W. Jackson. Charles gives a mini-tour of BARC’s facility and describes the shelter’s effort to save more lives in the $100K Challenge. Don’t miss the end of the video – Charles and Lynn Milson, an Animal Care Technician at BARC, reveal a special talent that shows the lighter side – or should we say the Hollywood potential – of BARC’s employees!
